Western Skies Motel is an instrumental project helmed by Danish musician Rene Schelbeck. With organic means like harmonium and acoustic guitar, Western Skies Motel explores sentiments of introvert reflection. The music has been created from a vision of an atmospheric, interwoven, textural sound ideal and the process characterised by improvisation and immediacy in the compositions. Noisy feedback blends into softer ambient timbres, harmonies evolve unnoticeably into dissonance, and the melancholy exudes equal parts of hope and despair. “Buried and Resurfaced” is the sound of rusted particles of magnetic tape. Centred around electric guitar improvisations recorded with worn out tape machines. Western Skies Motel conducts a search for the imperfections and incidental structures that make up our past and form our conscious and unconscious selves. Through this collection of retrospective meditations “Buried and Resurfaced” tells a story of forgotten memories and compromised ideals, revealing an inner struggle of supressed chaotic emotions and elusive beauty attempting to reach the surface.
