For Waiting, For Chasing was originally issued in a limited pressing in 2006.Perhaps the most skeletal and minimal of all of the works in the Pan•American canon, it may also be the most compelling. For Waiting, For Chasing has a very distinct sound, seperating it from earlier Pan•American albums . There is less dub-techno appeal to the music and seems to be more influenced by sound-painting as sequenced drums are almost non-existent. Also, Pan American’s typical contrast between electronic sounds and acoustic instrumentation is less obvious here. Probably the most typical Pan American track is the last on the album “Amulls”, where clicks and cuts form a rhythm while gentle piano melodies guide us through the song. All together, the six songs are a lot more minimal from a composing perspective. But at the same time, they are more complex from the perceptional perspective, with lot’s of random sounds and noises, especially in the first two tracks “Love Song” and “Are You Ready?”. On many ambient albums it rarely happens that field recordings, acoustic instruments and electronic sounds blend in a way that you cannot distinguish the heritage of a sound anymore. On this particular release, the combination is what each composition is all about.
