The sounds that formed 'Gray Havens' were recorded and shaped by me in Tamil Nadu, India. Most notably, the rather lo-fi recording of the sea was made at a beach near Auroville. The year was 2009. Some fourteen years later, I found myself looking towards that same coastline in the distance, but this time from the shores of Sri Lanka. The teardrop of India, part of the same landmass, connected via Ram Setu (Adam's Bridge), yet also set apart by the waves of the Indian Ocean. That place in the world has a profound effect on me. It melts something inside me, something that is keeping things separated, organised. Again enfolded by waves of creative impulses beyond my personal consciousness, I embarked on a revisit of the original sounds that first formed 'Gray Havens', later distilled and extended into 'Haven'. Beginning to record new sounds, gently adding on layers while delicately filtering the original frequencies until new tapestries take shape, some closer and some further from the original, yet all part of the same Soul; fractals of a Whole that extends beyond the sum of its parts.
