Canopy of Stars is Christian Wheeldon( UK ) and with “Darkness and Light” he offers his fourth and Databloem’s second, masterfully produced cosmic adventure. Real ambient-space music that seems to keep you floating. Think of an Oriental twist of Tangerine Dream, Vangelis or even the musical playfulness of Mike Oldfield: “During the period leading up to the beginnings of this album I found myself listening to a great deal of Japanese electronic music, including the 'Kankyo Ongaku' ambient compilation, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Satoshi Ashikawa and the Yellow Magic Orchestra. As if to demonstrate the influence of the subconscious on the creative processes most of the tunes that began to emerge in the moments before sleep were oriental in style. At this time, the world was also plunged into pandemic lockdown. This shadowy period was ultimately reflected in a collection of music journeying through darkness and light, always yearning for, and often arriving at the latter. Conversely, on completing the album, which had a running order from the early stages of recording, I realised that it begins with 'A New Day', ending with sunset and finally night.
