Liam J Hennessy : held

 Liam J Hennessy is a composer, based in London, UK, crafting his own brand of wonderfully intricate, melodic songs using a unique blend of natural and electronic sounds. From 2010 until 2014 he recorded under the alias of Drops, having released a 7” vinyl and an EP on Heat Death Records and a self-released split EP together with Umber. Since 2014 he has focused on writing music for film and television shows and throughout 2016 he worked on a new project, based on the idea of writing and recording one song every month. "Held", his first release under his real name, consists of six tracks presenting half of the twelve installments of the A Song Each Month project. All tracks include field recordings and found sounds, captured with a portable microphone on trips to various places during the month each track was recorded. The sounds captured were used as the basis of the tracks, giving a nice natural sound, while the field recordings were chopped up and manipulated to make the beats. Then layers of nostalgic guitar melodies were added and filled with additional background ambience created with a mixture of guitar swells, ebow drones, warm synths and lots of filters and reverb. Two of the six tracks feature special guest appearances and are collaborations between Hennessy and his good friends and wonderful artists Good Weather For An Airstrike and Umber. The mastering of Held has been done by George Mastrokostas (aka Absent Without Leave), giving a deep majestic warmth to its sounds. Held is a beautiful release full of lovely sounds that will appeal to anyone moved by the music of artists such as Helios, Message To Bears and Balmorhea.
